Hunters

In the years following the closing of the Collapse, a new class of combat unit has emerged. Made up of former mercenaries, bounty hunters, military, and even big game hunters, Hunters are those dedicated to ridding human space of the Eldritch who have occasionally escape through a Bleed point. Pay as a Hunter is something that can be hard to come by, because of the nature of interstellar travel it’s rare for a Hunter to actually be hired by somebody who can pay much. Typically, Hunter bands roam human space until they come upon a Bleed point, at which point they offer their services to the local government (or corporation). If it’s a planet with financial means, they will be payed on terms specific to that group or that planet, and once the Bleed has been cleansed and closes naturally, the group will move on to the next system. Some times though, the locals can’t pay, and what happens at this point is dependent on the Hunters themselves. If they can afford the risk and cost associated with possibly extended combat situations, they will engage with the promise of possible barter, medical attention, resupply, etc. If the group cannot/will not risk combat with no guaranteed payment, then they will simply leave the system to its fate, and let the local security forces deal with the threat. Because of groups like this, in some systems Hunters have a bad name, but there are those that are in it for the good they do, not for the money, and these groups are well taken care of by any they help.
